482nd FIS:

Running the Buffer

This was my [GCW] favorite part of the Barrack's detail ... which involved two men assigned to scrub, mop, wax, and buff three floors of hallway, one Day Room (TV), one Recreation room (usually ping-pong), and the CQ room (Charge of Quarters), unless he objected. We usually took time to do our own rooms while we were at it.

A buffer is a wonderful tool. Touched gently, a man can run it with with a couple fingers ... try to force it, and it can beat you and the building half to death leaving assorted wreckage behind until the cord unplugs itself. [Been there, done that. Lowry AFB headquarters of all places.]
