The 1958 William Tell Photos

This was the first year that Tyndall AFB would host the William Tell air-to-air weapons meeting, which it has continued to do through today, for the Air Defense Command - now Air Combat Command. As luck would have it, our runway at Seymour Johnson AFB was being lengthened for SAC bombers. So we were TDY to Oceana Naval Air Station at Virginia Beach while both fulfilling our mission and practicing for the shoot at Tyndall. Ergo, the photos below are divided into Oceana and Tyndall categories. We also had a month each year at Tyndall to use their firing range and were familiar with the turf (heat, mosquitoes, and sharks...at the beach and in the town).
