Clyde E. Barringer


SALISBURY - MSgt Clyde Edward Barringer, 84, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Clyde was born in Rowan County, on March 3, 1924. He was the son of the late Burton Craig Barringer and Grady Lee Wagoner Barringer. He was a graduate of Boyden High School Class of 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in World War II in the European Theater.

In 1948, Clyde enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Goldsboro, Albuquerque, N.M., as well as Okinawa, Japan. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1968.

He owned a pecan farm in Lordsburg, N.M., for 20 years before returning to North Carolina to retire.

Mr. Barringer was a member of Stallings Memorial Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for a number of years. He was an Elder of the Church of Christ in Lordsburg, N.M., as well as a founding deacon of Southwest Christian Church in Albuquerque, N.M.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Rebecca Barringer; one daughter, Laura Lee Braziel and husband David; his beloved grandson, Benjamin David Braziel; and one brother, William Lee Barringer of Covington, Ky.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Burton Craig Barringer, on April 15, 2000, and son David Edward Barringer on Jan. 25, 1971.

Service and Visitation: A Graveside Service with full military honors by the U.S. Air Force will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26 at Rowan Memorial Park. The Rev. Charlie Bryan will conduct the service. The family will receive friends following the service.
