ED NOTE: All obituaries above contain the incorrect phrase "died Jan. 16, 2009, at Hilo Medical Center." I have no idea why. The remains didn't reach there until two days after his death. Every newspaper in the islands carried reports on the recovery efforts. There seems to be a problem with stating Dave was killed in a glider accident, or more likely, an uncorrected mortuary error/mis-conception.
