LT. COL. JOHN R. BIRD, 58, of Colorado Springs died Saturday. He served in the Air Force from 1956 until retiring in 1981 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave., with the Rev. Jim Johnston officiating. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
Lt. Col. Bird was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Ridgely, Tenn., to Rubert and Opal (Marshall) Bird. He had lived in Colorado Springs since 1977.
He was married July 25, 1987, in Colorado Springs, to Peg Commins, who survives.
Lt. Col. Bird also is survived by two sons, John R. of New Orleans and William D. of Panama City, Fla.; a stepson, Christopher Commins of Colorado Springs; two stepdaughters, Fran Schubert and Tiffany Holstein, both of Colorado Springs; and two grandchildren.
