Vermell "Mel" Bobbitt, 74, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2005. Mr. Bobbitt was born on January 24, 1931, in Nash County son of the late William David and Mallie Cooper Bobbitt. He retired from the US Air Force after 22 years of service as a Master Sgt, after which he moved back to Rocky Mount and began his second career with the Rocky Mount Mills as a personal director from which he retired after 20 years of service. He served his Lord as a member, former deacon, and Sunday school teacher of Englewood Baptist Church.
Mr. Bobbitt is survived by one daughter, Betsy Lynn Bobbitt of Georgetown, KY; two sons, Mel Steven Bobbitt, Sr. and wife, Phyllis of Winterville, and David John Bobbitt and wife, Connie of Bailey; one grandson, Steven Bobbitt, Jr. of New Jersey.
Mel was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Dianne Farmer Bobbitt, a sister, Pauline Bobbitt and a brother, Thomas Bobbitt. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday October 1, 2005 in the chapel of Bowling Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Sorie officiating. Burial will follow at Bailey Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Friday night at Bowling Funeral Home, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
