Thomas J. Bourke, 69, retired Troy Police Sergeant, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Troy, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Bourke and Ellen Ver Schneider Bourke. Survivors include two daughters Johanna Shedd (Royce) of Hamilton, Ohio, and Colleen Bourke of San Francisco, California; three grandchildren, Ethan, Mariah and Royce Shedd; two sisters Mary Ellen Hill (Theodore) of East Greenbush and Margaret Fallow (Ronald) of Coventry, Rhode Island and several nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by a brother John Bourke.
Thomas Bourke was a 1959 graduate of Catholic Central High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1961 to 1965 and a member of the Troy Police Department, where he received several commendations for outstanding service during his 36 years, retiring in 2002. Tom was also a member of the Troy Policeman's Benevolent Association, the Veterans of Lansingburgh and the Stephentown Valley Rod and Gun Club.
A calling hour will be held on Wednesday 9:00 to 10:30 a. m. prior to Mass at the McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th Street and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Troy PBA, P.O. Box 1041, Troy, New York 12181 or Veterans of Lansingburgh, 777 1st Avenue, Troy, New York 12182.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Avenue. Troy. Burial will follow in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
