Lawrence died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at his home at the age of 71.
He was born Sept. 30, 1937, a son of Hershel T. and Anna Bell (Casey) Bump, in the Harmony Starr area. Lawrence graduated from Claremore High School in 1956. He went to serve in the U.S. Air Force, and retired from American Airlines in 1997. He was an avid OU fan, and enjoyed gardening, crappie fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Lawrence was a member of Lifeway Claremore Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean Bump; and brother, Albert Bump.
On March 19, 2000, Lawrence married Dorothy Sumter, who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Windy Bump of Claremore; his daughter, Theresa Smith of Claremore; brother, Hershel "Buck" Bump [Delores] of Coffeyville, KS; four sisters: Josephine Faught of Claremore, Emma Jean Pearson (Darrel) of Oologah, Joy Brugman [Glenn] of Oologah, and Ivone Dick [Jay] of Claremore; six grandchildren: Jennifer Spurlock, Marvin Porche, Dustin Bump, Dawn Waggoner, Norma Porche, and Brandy Cooper; fourteen ggrandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Lawrence Perry Bump will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 13, at Claremore Assembly of God with Pastor Nathan Faught officiating. Burial, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force, will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service & Crematory. Visitation with family greeting friends will be held at the funeral home Sunday 3-5 p.m.
