Major ROBERT L. CAIN


Mr. Robert L. "Bob" CAIN, of Charleston Township, passed away Tuesday morning, November 12, 2002. Bob was born April 18, 1932 in Adair County, OK, the son of William O. and Arrah (Rapp) Cain, and was raised in Southern Illinois. Bob attended the Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, and was a veteran, retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1972 after 20 years, where he achieved his childhood dream of becoming a fighter pilot. He retired as a Major and served during the Vietnam Conflict.

Later he was employed with the KALSEC Corporation where he retired from in 1994. Bob was a member of the Comstock United Methodist Church, and after retiring enjoyed traveling in his bus. He also enjoyed music and building things. Bob was also a member of the Comstock V.F.W. Post #6252, the Climax American Legion, the Michigan D.A.V. and the Masonic Scottish Rite.

On January 28, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Darnell who survives. Also surviving are 4 children and their spouses, Melissa (William) Ackerman of Galesburg, Robert Jr. (Wendy) Cain of Livonia, MI, William O. (Lori) Cain of Portage, Cynthia (David) Hendrix of Colorado Springs, CO; 12 grandchildren; sisters, Pauletta Gasaway of Portage, Kathleen Matson of Waynesville, IL; sister-in-law, Edith Cain of Raleigh, IL; and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Cain.

Services will held 1:00 o'clock Friday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Hoag-Switzer Comstock Chapel, 6121 King Highway, with Rev. Peggy Baker, of the Comstock United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Comstock Chapel. Memorials may be directed to the Comstock United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
