MYRTLE BEACH: Omer Waverly Capps, 66, of Freewood Road, died Monday, January 29, 2007, while helping a stranded motorist. Known to many as ''Pap'', he was always willing to help others, so it is fitting that his last act was helping someone else. Those who knew him, will remember his kind heart, his many stories and his ready jokes.
Born July 31, 1940 in Murrells Inlet, he was the son of Beatrice Wells of Conway and the late Ernest Waverly Capps.
Mr. Capps was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a retired truck driver.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Doris Capps; sons and wives, Kenneth Capps and Leslie Shepley, Bradley and Janet Capps and Timothy and Sabrina Capps all of Myrtle Beach; daughter and her husband, Cynthia and Timothy O'Neill of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Heather and Sara Capps, Amanda Becker, Kristen Kulscar, Robert, Christopher and Alyssa Capps, Jessica and Nicole O'Neill, Robert and Sondra Shepley and Michael Jones; great-grandchildren, Korbin and Stella Edmunds; and a sister, Jane Knight of Murrells Inlet.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
Services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2007 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105.
