Raymond L. Cole Sr., 78, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Mr. Cole retired from the 48th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Langley AFB as a master sergeant Oct. 1, 1966, after 22 years of military service. He then went to work for the civil service at Fort Eustis, retiring after 18 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Cole; his brother, Othenal Cole; and his sister, Beatrice Stutts. Survivors include his wife, Reina Cole; his daughter, Traci Cotich; four sons, Corry Cole, Karl Cole and Brian Cole of Hampton and Ray Cole Jr. of Lanexa; two sisters, Ethel Elmore of Charlotte and Madeline Brafford of Moncks Corner, S.C.; a brother, Carl Cole of Charlotte; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and four stepgrandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at noon Friday, Oct. 13, in Hampton Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Kenneth W. Newsome. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
