GRAHN - Robert Vencil "Bob" Cox Sr., 71, of Grahn, KY, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 29, 2010, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell.
He was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Olive Hill, Ky., a son of the late Ross Columbus Cox and Ivory Nickels Cox. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, James Junior Cox, Joe Henry Cox and Charles Ernest Cox, and a sister, Mary Belle Meade.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Dannie Sue King Cox; a son, Robert V. "Bobby" Cox Jr. of Ashland, Ky.; daughters Dolores Anne (Lonnie) Patton of Ashland, Ky., and Doris Jean (Ronnie) Wallace of Grayson, Ky.; a sister, Bertha Mae Blankenship of Richmond, Ind.; a brother, Billy Gene (Marilyn) Cox of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Lance Eric Patton of Ashland, Ky., and Brandon Kyle Wallace of Grayson, Ky. In addition to these, he is survived by a close niece, Charlene Cox of Olive Hill, and a host of relatives, friends, nieces and nephews who sadly mourn his passing.
Bob was a retired technical sergeant In the Unites States Air Force with 21 years of service, worked as an EMT with the Carter County Ambulance Service for 10 years and drove the Lexington DAV Veteran Transport Van for 13 years. He was a member of Grahn Nazarene Church, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Mount Airy Masonic Lodge in the Philippines, where he was a lifetime member, Olive Hill Masonic Lodge 629, where he was a 32nd degree master Mason and also past master, Olive Hill Order of Eastern Star 290, where he was past worthy patron, and a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 147. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and doing genealogy work.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Brother Norman Carrico officiating. Burial will will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky., with military honors by the Olive Hill American Legion post.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Nov. 1, 2010, all day Tuesday and until services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Eastern Star services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m.
