Mr. Curry, 62, of Charlotte, died April 16, 2007 at CMC-Pineville. He was born in St. Louis, MO, to the late James and Myrtle Curry, Sr. He was raised in Memphis, TN, by his grandmother, Luella B. Jones, whom he continuously credited for his strong upbringing.
John retired from Continental General Tire as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer after 34 years of service and was currently serving on the North Carolina Port Authority Board of Directors.
John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Selma; his daughter, Rhonda (Jacksonville, FL); his son, Michael (Durham, NC); his brother, James Curry, Jr. (Stone Mountain, GA); his uncles, Elbert Berry (Memphis, TN) and John Berry (St. Louis, MO); his mother-in-law, Annie P. Hicks (Suffolk, VA); and his in-laws, Richard and Barbara Copeland (Suffolk, VA) and George and Elaine Hicks (Norwalk, CT).
Services will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3301 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216. Viewing will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blessed Harvest Institute Church of Durham, 2146 Charles Street #14, Durham, NC 27707 or Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC 28216.
John's family will be receiving friends and family Wednesday at their home.

John Curry of 4701 Coburn Court, Charlotte, N.C., and the husband of Mrs. Selma H. Curry, passed away April 16, 2007. He was a native of St. Louis, Mo., and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. A graveside service will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Annie Hicks, 2508 Woodland Trail, Suffolk. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
