William G. Ellis


William G. "Bill" Ellis, 88, of Enfield, died peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Tariff, W.Va., on Feb 2, 1921, Bill was the son of the late Wade H. and Dorsey (Trout) Ellis. Following his retirement from the United States Air Force, Bill was employed with United Technologies Research Department in East Hartford before retiring in 1984. Bill proudly served his country with the United States Air Force, retiring as a senior master sergeant in 1966. He served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Germany Occupation Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. Bill enjoyed nature and wildlife, especially feeding geese and spending time with his best friend, his dog "Foxy."

Bill is survived by his daughters, Lenore Lockwood and her husband, Ken, of Oregon, and Jan Wilby and her husband, Lew, of Ellington; his grandchildren, Cindy Brown and her husband, Brian, Cathy Hill and her husband, J.R., Wade Wilby and his wife, Jennifer Hartswick, and Morgan Wilby; his great-grandchildren, Brian Brown Jr. and his fianc?e, Shay Pulver, Daniel Brown, and Levi Campbell; his great-great-granddaughter, Blayke Brown; and his niece, Sunny Drost and her husband, Jim, of West Virginia. He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Joyce (Riley) Ellis; his two sons, William G. Ellis Jr. and Wade H. Ellis; and his sister, Mary Law.

Bill's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m., followed by a Service of Remembrance at 7:30 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, CT 06082. A private burial in St. Bernard Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
