LEABURG - Memorial services will be held March 18 and April 1 for Douglas Charles Fletcher of Leaburg, who died March 9 of cancer. He was 87.
Fletcher was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Remer, Minn., to Charlie and Mabel Metzer Fletcher. He married Margaret Patterson on May 5, 1940, in New Jersey. She died Sept. 23, 1981. He married Ivy Parker on Feb. 28, 1982, in Reno, Nev.
He graduated from high school in Remer in 1936. He served in the Air Force from 1943 to 1962, retiring as a major. He moved to the Lane County area in 1963 and worked in recreational vehicle repair and maintenance in Springfield, Eugene and Junction City. Fletcher enjoyed flying and received a pilot's license at 65. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends, hunting, gold mining in Alaska, choir and gardening.
He belonged to the Sojourner Chapter of the Good Sam Club, the National Rifle Association and Eagles Aerie 275, and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 28.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary of Wilcox, Ariz., and Douglas of Napa, Calif.; two daughters, Deborah Gresham of Leaburg and Linda Rogers of Beaverton; four stepchildren, JoAnne Fondren of Caldwell, Idaho, Sandra Davis of Kaneohe, Hawaii, Toni Epperson of Grants Pass and Darryl Thorsteinson of Turlock, Calif.; a sister, Idelle Smith of Longville, Minn.; 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Sandra Fletcher, died June 21, 1944, and a stepdaughter, Jan Adam, died April 30, 1999.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield.
Saturday's service will be held at 2 p.m. at McKenzie Baptist Church in Leaburg. The April 1 service will be held at 2 p.m. at Mason Memorial Congregational Church in Remer, Minn., with private burial in the Remer Cemetery. Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to McKenzie River Christian School.

Longtime Leaburg resident Douglas Charles Fletcher died March 9 of cancer. Mr. Fletcher was 87. He was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Remer, Minn., to Charlie and Mabel (Metzer) Fletcher. He was valedictorian of the Class of 1936 in Remer, Minn. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1962 and retired as Major. His second career was in RV repair and maintenance in Springfield, Eugene, and Junction City. He earned his pilot's license at age 65. He enjoyed hunting, flying, gold mining in Alaska, choir, gardening, and spending time with his friends.
