Julian L. Harris


BLACKSBURG – Julian LeRoy Harris, 67, of 285 Loves Farm Rd., died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at his residence. Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Elizabeth Jean White Harris and son of the late Clarence Odis Harris and the late Berthena Dicie Owensby Harris. He was retired from the military and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW and American Legion. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Maurice Paul Harris of LeMessa, N.Mex.; two stepsons, Wesley Eugene Smith and Dale Keith Smith, both of Smyrna; four sisters, JoAnn Martin, Claudine Dawster, Faye Moss, all of Smyrna, and Bonnie White of Blacksburg; three brothers, Steve Turner of Grover, Jerry White of Blacksburg and David Mitchell of Smyrna; and five grandchildren, Christy Carlton, Samantha Carlton, Cabot Carlton, Danielle Smith and Scottie Smith.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Chris Barrett. Entombment, with full military rites, will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends today from 7-9 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary and at other times they will be at the residence.
