Carroll Hicks --- St. Joseph, Mo.

Carroll C. Hicks, 80, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at a local health care facility.

Mr. Hicks was born January 14, 1930, in Coffeyville, Kan., the son of Roger Lee and Frances (Connett) Hicks.

Carroll graduated from Benton High School in 1947 and the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He served in the United States Air Force as a Pilot during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

Carroll married Leila W. Dale on May 1, 1961. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Roger, Charles, and Wes Hicks.

Mr. Hicks retired from the United States Air Force and from the St. Joseph News-Press as the Head of the Accounting Department.

He was a member of the Benton Club, the Air Force Association, the Retired Officers Association, and was a fellow member of the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art, where he was the former President and Treasurer.

Carroll was also a long time volunteer at the Bartlett Center.

Also surviving: son, Elliot Hicks, St. Joseph; daughter, Alicia Halpin and husband, Donald, St. Louis, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Zack and Forrest Hicks and Reece and Margaret Rose Halpin.

Memorial services: 1 p.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment: Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The family suggests memorial gifts to Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art or a charity of the donor's choice.
