Retired Master Sgt. Hatler "Les" Leslie, 55, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Pikeville, Ky., he was the husband of Velora Jean Winstead Leslie and was the son of the late Willie and Este Roop Leslie. He was the owner and operator of Carolina Marking Systems and was a member of the Travelers Protection Agency and the Elks Lodge.
His funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Goff Jr. of the church of Christ, the Rev. Linda Burroughs of the Word Church, and Danny Hood. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Angela and William Dean of Dudley, and Connie Lyne Leslie and Stacy Leslie of Goldsboro; two brothers, Martin Leslie of Pikeville, Ky., and Billy Joe Leslie of Lexington, Ky.; three sisters, Marjorie Voss of Louisville, Ky., Mildred Adkins of Wakeman, Ohio, and Mary Leslie of Pikeville, Ky.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro.

Velora Jean Winstead Leslie, 74, of Goldsboro passed away Monday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. She was the wife of the late Hatler "Les" Leslie, and was the daughter of the late Samuel F. and Ila Perry Winstead. She retired from the food service industry.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dennis Pollock officiating. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.
Mrs. Leslie is survived by three daughters and sons-in- law, Stacey and Dave Hyatt of Goldsboro, Angie and Billy Dean of Dudley, and Connie L. and Greg Carraway of Goldsboro; and four grandchildren, Lyndsey Dean, Cameron Dean, Hannah Hyatt and Gregory Carraway.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their loving care during Mrs. Leslie's stay.
