James E. Massengill


James Earl Massengill, 70, of Pine Drive, Four Oaks, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at his home.

He was born June 11, 1938, in Johnston County to the late Ernie Rufus and Madie Frances Allen Massengill. He was an Air Force veteran and worked with the Department of Defense in contract administration for 35 years. Mr. Massengill was a member of Four Oaks United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Fellowship Lodge No. 84, where he was a past master and was a former Four Oaks fireman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Lou; and three brothers, Bobby, Billy, and Charlie Massengill.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Minshew Funeral Home by the Rev. Joey Yow. Burial will follow at Four Oaks Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lynn Massengill; a daughter, Karen Johnson of Four Oaks; sons, David Earl Massengill of Four Oaks, John D. Massengill and wife Darlene of Micro; brothers, Donald Wayne Massengill of Meadow and Danny Joe Massengill of Four Oaks; brother-in-law, L.C. Jones and wife Anne of Warsaw; daughter-in-law, Judi Massengill; son-in-law, Gary Johnson; grandchildren, Brody and Gage Massengill, Gray and McKinley Johnson, all of Four Oaks, Tripp Massengill of Creedmore; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Flowers are welcome and memorials may be made to the Johnston Memorial Home Care and Hospice or Four Oaks Methodist Church.
