ROBERT D. MEASE


SAN MARCOS - Robert D. Mease, 74, died of prostate cancer Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. Born May 23, 1932, in Osceola, Iowa, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Leland and Pauline Mease. He lived in San Marcos for 19 years and retired in 1999 from the Escondido School District.

Mr. Mease retired in 1981 from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel after 28 years of service. He was a Vietnam staff officer, a transport pilot, a squadron officer and a school instructor.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Hazle Mease of San Marcos; sons and daughter-in-law David and Blanca Mease and Larry Mease, all of Montgomery, Ala.; daughters and sons-in-law Sandy and Bill Wade of Fort Worth, Texas, and Susie and Jim Dunham of Montgomery; stepdaughters Kathy Ferguson of Fallbrook, Debra Langley of Spring Valley, Jaci and Koge Njaka of Thousand Oaks and Stephanie Mease of Roseville; brothers and sisters-in-law Paul and Mary Mease of Calimesa and Cecil and Shirley Mease of Hot Springs, Ark.; sisters and brothers-in-law Lois Jean Query of Raleigh, N.C., Francis and Darrell Bobzin of Des Moines, Iowa, and Irene and Steve Clutter of Houston; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at the Escondido Country Club, 1800 Country Club Lane in Escondido. Burial at sea is planned.
