Robert J. O'Grady passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 25, 2003, of natural causes. His daughter, Chris, and his three sons, Sean, Michael and Patrick, as well as many extended family members survive him.
Robert had been a resident of the High Desert for nearly 40 years. Robert, or "Bob" as he liked to be called, was transferred to George Air Force Base in 1964, where he served his country as a test pilot and squadron commander. During his Air Force career, Bob also served in the Korean conflict as well as three tours in the Vietnam War, flying his beloved aircraft, the F-86 and F-4 Phantom.
Bob retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel in 1970 and began civilian life as the golf course manager of what is now the Green Tree Country Club. Ten years later, Bob opened Seventh Street Cycle Center with his son-in-law, Mike Baumgaertel, selling and repairing Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Some years later, Bob changed vocations and became a supervisor for Guy Coons Construction Company. Bob retired in 1995, in order to spend more time at home with his wife, Regis.
Anyone who knew Bob understood that he would give "the shirt off his back" to help a friend. He was an honest and fair man of the highest integrity. We love him and will miss him very much.
Viewing will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Victor Valley Mortuary, with services at 1:30 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Victor Valley Memorial Park. Victor Valley Mortuary is handling arrangements.
