On December 19, 2010, our beloved hero, Hugh Kendrick Parmer, Jr. entered the presence of his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, into his eternal home. His 85 years on earth were completed after a swift decline from terminal cancer.
Hugh's life on earth began in Bessemer, Alabama, where he grew up as the only child of Hugh and Ollie Parmer. As a youth turning into young adult, he joined the Army Air Corps to serve in World War II taking part in the liberation of Europe. Serving his country was Hugh’s calling when he rejoined the armed forces after a short reprieve. As a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he dedicated 30 years of his life to military service and finally retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the Air Force.
Hugh built his extended family life while working through multiple assignments in the US as well as in various countries, grafting a Dutch family branch by marriage.
In his second career he became a successful realtor and broker. In all of his relationships with family, friends and contacts with people he maintained a steadfast character, integrity and responsibility. With him in our midst, the times of our lives stayed anchored.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest daughter, Rebecca Spencer of Telluride, Co. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Gemma, his son Ken Parmer and wife Penny, his daughter Debbie Parmer; grandchildren Lewis and Linda Curtis, Shannon and Nick Bialzik, Tyler, Robert, Brittany, Andrew, Pierce and great grandchild Hudson.
Saddened by our loss but deeply grateful for Hugh’s life we as his survivors will uphold his legacy. A memorial service will be held on Hugh’s birthday, December 22, 2010 with visitation at 2:00, a service at 3:00, followed by a time of fellowship at Niceville United Methodist Church, Partin Drive, Niceville.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

REMEMBRANCE from ASTRID: "I am so sorry for the loss of Hugh ... there are so many warm, loving and fun memories I charish of him. Yesterday evening we remembered many of them with laughter and tears, while drinking Bacardi Coke --- Hugh's one and only favourite. I will remember Hugh forever ... his pure interest, always ready to give his honest opinion and advise, his loyalty and devotion to the people he loved, his unlimited hospitality, his dancing, and his love." 12/23/2010
