In 1966, Colonel Jabara had been assigned command of the 31st Tactical Fighter Wing at Homestead AFB, Florida, and was preparing to deploy with them for his first tour in the Vietnam War. He planned to move his family to South Carolina until the rotation was over. The Jabaras were traveling in two cars that day. The Colonel was riding in a Volkswagen with his 16 year old daughter, Carol Anne, driving. At Delray Beach, FL, she lost control of the car in a construction zone and it rolled several times. Colonel Jabara was pronounced dead on arrival at the Delray hospital and Carol Anne died two days later. They were buried together at Arlington.
During WWII, Colonel Jabara was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with OLC and the Air Medal with 18 OLC. In Korea, he became a triple Ace, and received a second OLC for the DFC, as well as the Distinguished Service Cross with one OLC.
