Jimmy Paul Rhodes, 74, of Panama City, FL, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010 in a local hospital. He was born June 7, 1935 in Zavalla, Texas. He was a lifelong career fighter pilot serving in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He served his country for over 30 years, retiring in 1985 at the rank of Lt Colonel. After retiring, he continued to fly for Air First and Flight International. He was a member of Tyndall River Rats and the Order of the Daedalians.
Col. Rhodes is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Guillory Rhodes, 3 children, James Paul Rhodes II, Elizabeth Rhodes Prouty and husband Scott, Gay Rhodes Winn and husband Paul, 7 grandchildren, Brittany Rhodes, Brooke Rhodes, Ryan Rhodes, Brinton Prouty, Brian Prouty, Brandon Winn and Bradley Winn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul "Jake" and Pauline Davenport Rhodes, and brother, Tommy Joe Rhodes.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Father Peter Zalewski officiating. Active pallbearers are Tom Gainer, Tom Wotring, Bruce Klein, Mike Foy, T.C. Thompson, and Tom Mason. Honorary pallbearers will be the Tyndall River Rats and the Order of the Daedalians.
Interment will be held in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date. In lieu of flowers those wishing to do so may make a contribution to Catholic Charities or St. Dominic's Catholic Church in memory of Jimmy Paul Rhodes.
