David Keith Schurr, 66, of Port Charlotte died Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Tidewell Hospice & Palliative Care in Venice. Born on April 29, 1942, in Garrett, Indiana, he had been a resident of Port Charlotte for eight years coming from Leo, Indiana. Mr. Schurr served in the U. S. Air Force and was a tool and dye maker for General Electric, before becoming a computer network analyst for a motor manufacturer.
A man with a love for nature, he was a member of the Sarasota and Peace River Butterfly Societies and the Charlotte County Master Gardener Society. He was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and the American Legion Post 110 in Port Charlotte. Mr. Schurr was also a greeter in the garden center at Wal-Mart and a communicant of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Englewood.
Survivors include his loving wife of twenty-one years: Jane Schurr of Port Charlotte, FL; his mother: Ethel Bohrer of Garrett, IN; one daughter: Shawn (Nate) Parks of Oviedo, FL; two sons: Kirk (Kathy) Schurr of Auburn, IN; Jon (Crystal) Schurr of Bradenton, FL; one step-son: James (Debbie) Jackson of Lexington, KY; two sisters: Beverly Carper of Garrett, IN; Carol (Joseph) Schlabach of Ft. Wayne, IN; one brother: Robert (Jacqui) Schurr of Palmetto, FL; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 24, 2008, at 11 AM at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 6465 Mayport Street, Englewood, with Pastor Warren Thomason, officiating.
