James M. Shaffer

Nov. 16, 1940 - Dec. 23, 2007

James M. Shaffer, age 67 years, of Clarksville, Virginia and formerly of Smithfield, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007, in the Halifax South Boston Community Hospital in Halifax, Virginia. He had been a Police Officer in Washington, DC, for many years and belonged to The Association of Retired Police Officers.

He was born in Smithfield, PA, on November 16, 1940, the son of the now late Clyde Shaffer and Dorothy E. Wilkins Shaffer. He was a USAF veteran and a Protestant by faith, attending the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Romesburg Shaffer; and three children: James M. Shaffer II and wife, Barbara, of Fairfax, Virginia, Lisa L. Keisling and her husband, Matthew, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Nathan H. Shaffer and his wife, Jodie, of Knoxville, Maryland; one brother, Clyde Shaffer Jr. and his wife, Rose, of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Wilma Jean Minor and her husband, David, of Smithfield, Pa.; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the John F. Brownfield Funeral Home, Smithfield, PA, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, December 29, 2007, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Rev. Donald Walls, retired Pastor of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Smithfield, officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery, Smithfield, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions in his memory to the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, 100 West Station Square, Suite 1950, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
