Major Thomas was born May 13, 1926 in Stanly County. He was a son of the late Joseph B. and Alice Hatley Thomas. He was a retired pilot with the United States Air Force and a member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Gilead.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lathan Thomas, on January 7, 2011.

He is survived by his son, Ted Edward Thomas Jr. of Vass. His daughters, Gloria Thomas Lengel of Fayetteville, and Alice Thomas Abrams of Charlotte. Two Granddaughters, Megan Lengel-Roberson and Gillian Abrams. One Great- Granddaughter, Isabella Roberson.

Major Ted Edward Thomas Sr. Retired USAF 85, of Mt. Gilead, died Friday morning, May 13, 2011 at the Veterans Hospital in Salisbury. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, May 21, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Mt. Gilead. Rev. Jim Harris will officiate. Full military honors will be given by the United States Air Force. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 Saturday afternoon in the church fellowship hall.

MOUNT GILEAD - Retired Air Force Maj. Ted Edward Thomas Sr., 85, of Mount Gilead, died Friday, May 13, 2011. Services: Funeral, 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church of Mount Gilead. Mrs. Thomas was born September 5, 1931 in Richmond County. She was the daughter of the late Clonnie McAlister Lathan and Myrtle Biles Lathan. She was a retired Registered Nurse/Family Nurse Practioner. She is survived by her husband Ted Edward Thomas of the home. One son, Ted Edward Thomas, Jr. of Vass. Two daughters, Gloria Thomas Lengel of Fayetteville and Alice Thomas Abrams of Charlotte. One brother, Marvin Lathan of Missouri and one sister Marie Wenson of Michigan. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Megan Lengel-Roberson of Greenville and Gillian Abrams of Charlotte. One great-granddaughter, Isabella Roberson. Memorials may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation or to the First United Methodist Church, Lake Ministry.
