Killed Jan. 16, 2009, in a gliderplane on the Big Island of Hawaii while attempting to set a world's altitude record of 40,000 feet.
Returned from Nam to the 482nd in the late summer of 1965 to find it gone. Was transferred to the 59th at Goosebay only to be closed out there in 1966. Finished his time as Captain in the 86th and then returned to civilian life and worked as an Airlines pilot, mostly in the Hawaii Islands area.
[The nametag on the pilot's jacket says "R. L. Baker" and there must be a story as to why Dave was wearing it ... maybe Capt Baker will remember. Does make things hard for researchers though.]
