482nd FIS:

Everett E. Roe, WWII AAC Veteran

[Memories of Geri Thompson Whitaker, the widow of Comer Thompson, a fellow crew member from WWII. May 1, 2009 --- Toccoa, GA]

I remember the first time I saw Everett. It was at the 486th Bomb Group reunion in Tucson, AZ. His crew was there and he had been looking for them for a long time.

Leon Price, the pilot, stood up and said, "We have six members of our crew here tonight." Somewhere in the back Everett stood up and said, "Now you have seven."

There wasn't a dry eye in the place.

I also remember being in Savannah, GA, with him at the Air Force Museum. We rounded the corner and there on the wall was a very large picture from WWII of Everett. He was quite the celebrity as everyone there wanted their picture taken with him. He was a joy to be around and a true American hero. He will be sorely missed. I am grateful that I was able to share some special times with him and also his lovely wife Carmela. I will remember him fondly.
