As a teenager, Brian became a serious student of David Thomas Roberts's compositional style. In those teen days, he was accompanied to the festivals by his father. Mild mannered, shy, and introspective, yet able and eager to perform before the less than attentive audiences, endemic to festivals. His compositional and playing abilities have progressed to the point where Whitewater is nearly indistinguishable from the early Roberts work.
