Showing a touch of New Orleans flare (you should have seen the tie), Scott has stayed fairly close to that city as an adult. For several years, he shoved a piano about the French Quarter on a large wheeled push cart, playing at random for tips from gathering crowds. But he likes that, and really has an enthusiasm for it. Scott knows enough about the mechanics of a piano to do his own repair work so overhead isn't a problem.
Kirby is one of the few ragtimers to learn all of Scott Joplin's rags, recording a four CD set of those. Several other solo CDs have appeared and CDs shared with other performers, notably Frank French and David Thomas Roberts. A Buckeye by birth, Scott has an English degree from Ohio State University. His ragtime style and compositions are advanced...sometimes acoustic, sometimes Terra Verde, and sometimes lots of fun. Good man, great talent.
