June 10, 1992 at Sedalia, MO. The world needs to notice what Richard Egan is doing. His Folk Rag compositions are excellent middle of the road new Folk Rag and after notating the complete Brun Campbell for us all (see below), his style went deeper into the folk roots, "Campbellmania" and "Scenes From the Old Lead Belt." A chance meeting with John Hancock in Columbia, MO, brought Egan into contact with Folk Ragtime's inner circle of player/composers.
Richard is about as solid as they come and almost always takes his family with him when he travels to ragtime functions. He is polite, strong willed, modest, dedicated, and a straight arrow (if a tad bent in the bow). He's an all around nice man and I enjoy his company. And Richard may be the man who ends up collecting whats left when the rest of us are gone.
Egan has two music folios currently in print and the pianists among you should own both. (1) 122p folio of all of Brun Campbell's compositions at $20 and, (2) Egan's own compositions, Ragtime & Folk Piano, at $15@. And an excellent CD, From The Land Of Ragtime, for $17. All prices postpaid. Richard A. Egan Jr., 564 Woodlyn Crossing, Manchester, MO 63021. A limited number of these, folks.
This photo is a knockdown off a larger and lovely print that includes John Hancock and Max Schiltz. My fault for not having a usable single shot of Richard. I'll include the full shot during a future rotation. GCW
