June 3, 1993 at Sedalia, MO. Jack Rummel, DMD, of Boulder, CO, was taking some vacation time away from dentures in order to pursue his ragtime hobby; which, unfortunately, has turned into a second vocation. Rummel is one of those people who could have been anything he wanted to be. Jack Thomas Rummel was born on August 17, 1939, in Tacoma, WA, and only took up ragtime piano in his 40s and composition in his 50s and moved from clumsy and stilted to accomplished. No mean feat at that age. His ragtime interest sort of waffles back and forth between the classical and folk styles. "Mississippi Soul" and "West Texas Fiddler" are two nice works. And, like Milne, Jack isn't afraid to put humor in his work, "Bug Bites." If you can't find any recordings out there, you might try the man, himself, at jtrummel@comcast.net.
[I hate to take liberties and stick my neck out, but Jack this is a Ragtime Blues, possibly the first of its kind. Lovely...with much sorrow. GCW]
