Bob had probably played in more hard liquor establishments in the world than any man of his generation. He seemed to thrive there as the world's foremost barroom ragtimer. And, along with Max Morath, played a vital role in rediscovering hoards of sheet music and aging, pre-jazz composer/players of the syncopated years...which brought on the Ragtime Revival credited to Joshua Rifkin and "The Sting."
Bob was a performer...but he was also a quiet and shy person...as here, standing apart in a crowded room, braced against a doorway, listening to the current crop of great players. Where ever he went, America or Europe, he would send me a postcard. I miss them and him.
