This is about as famous as any man gets in Revival Jazz. Carl's Gin Bottle 7 & his Septet made him a name...but two other 10" LPs made him a legend.
They were 1) Carl Halen & the Washboard Five NYC, 1951, Riverside, and 2) The Dixieland Rhythm Kings on the Paradox label. Hardly noticed in America, he was a huge inspiration to the European players. He was the hottest horn I ever heard or hope to hear again. Last time I saw him he was raising Christmas trees between Dayton and Cincinnati.
