Taken in the wee hours on the St. Louis levee. Rick Siverson, of the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, had found a spot to rest along the levee wall, his trumpet cradled across his lap. I never made it until dawn during one of these jam sessions but 3 a.m. was common and 4 a.m. known to happen.
Mike Montgomery brushed by me one evening and said, "You know, George, I think the guys that go home when the boat closes are really missing something." I couldn't agree more. Bill Mason was the only St Louis Ragtimer who stayed. Just about all the "young" players hung in and practically ALL of the Royal Society were there.
Rick is still playing with RSJO members from those days, Tom Brozene and Howard Miyata.
