Taken at Ragtime Rick's in Toledo, Ohio. At this point Jamie was still looking for a place to land (to the extent that any jazz musician ever does that). He was leading a band, the New Orleans Joy Makers, and was playing cornet. Jamie was known for great tuba work (his major at the University of Toledo), most notably on a Ray Heitger and Mike Montgomery LP. But he was also a pianist, trombonist, and vocalist, and the lure of New Orleans was strong.
Jamie now lives in New Orleans (since 1984) and has been playing with various Jacques Gauthe ensembles, Chris Tyle's Silverleaf, the Dukes of Dixieland, and leading his own bands, presently the Portage Jazz Band. He has recorded often, current CDs include Jazz Hit Parade by the Fritzel Jazz Band and Jamie Wight's Portage Jazz Band of New Orleans.
