This was in the lobby of the Edison Theater on the Washington University Campus. The Fall Ragtime Festival was held here. These two great ragtime vocalists and string instrument players were exchanging hand shakes and hellos. While the Ragtimers followed the music from its rural roots thru Hot Jazz, Ian concentrated on the forms coming out of Tin Pan Alley. So in no way were these two competitive. Actually, they were complimentary and expanded the overall revival, each admiring what the other was doing. I was pushed from behind as I took this shot and lost the framing, missing the complete hand shake. But Ian always liked it because it was the only photo he had of his WW II "bomber jacket." Ian is a true combination of a nostalgia addict and a romanticist. GCW
