This photograph was waiting for me to arrive in St. Louis. I had just driven up to 3801 Federer around 7 p.m., walked thru the front door into the dining room. Trebor was on his way out the back door for an engagement. We shook hands, I raised the camera and took two shots, this was the first. Treb pitched me the house keys and told me to take the downstairs bedroom and was gone.
What I really like about this photo is the division of sheet music rack on one side and piano rolls stacked on a player piano on the other. Plus, its a super shot of Trebor, who tends to be shy and was still glad to see me. That wore off in the second shot. When he wants to do something, Trebor is not a patient man. But Ragtime in America spins around St. Louis and St. Louis Ragtime spins around Trebor. No one knows more about the traditional forms of that music than he. GCW
