Dave Jason has been known to write an album note or two, discourse on ragtime now and then, write a book from time to time, learn to play a new rag every year, collect an occasional piece of sheet music or old record, and generally do so quietly without causing hardly a stir. I have no idea why he is known as "The Purple Critic Eater" and "Ground Zero."
Dan Grinstead, of Seattle, Wash., has been doing most of that stuff since 1958. Dan is also a hot jazz tuba player, but currently, is pianist/arranger for the Evergreen Classic Jazz Band. While he makes his living as a marine engineer, Dan is a player piano technician and can fix what he breaks. Dan has a duo piano CD with Glenn Jenks entitled Ragtime - Bigtime thats worth the price. Good man.
