BUTCH THOMPSON

Butch sort of backed into Ragtime by way of Traditional Jazz and Jelly Roll Morton's work. He is first and foremost a jazzman (and excellent clarinetist). But his striding jazz style adapts well to ragtime and his apparently modern composition, Ecuadorean Memories, is actually one of the great Folk Rags. Butch tours a lot these days, is a conscientious and hard working performer, and an accurate writer and researcher...and has garnered wide respect from his peers in each of those fields. His performances and recordings are excellent. Don't miss one.
