JOHN FARRELL

1936 - 2007

St. Louis, Missouri : ŠJune 17, 1981 by George C. Willick

ENGLAND's late stride master, piano roll master,
and jazz master...with honors.

John had just scooped up one of Trebor's hats for a little nonsense...but it made for a unique photograph. Farrell began hand cutting piano rolls the hard way, one hole at a time. 500 or so rolls and arrangements later, John does it all on computer now. Farrell currently has time to do all of this, since he has retired and cut back on his public performances. He is the world's record holder as a pro/hobbyist piano roll producer.

Farrell loves piano ragtime and jazz in its hottest, most complex forms. Players and composers who developed variations of Stride and Novelty themes are also featured. John's labels are/were Jazzmaster, Ragmaster, Hot Piano Classics, and currently JazzMan. Rolls that are available are listed here while Frank Himpsl is doing the paper work in the US and can be reached here. Prices range usually around $15 but these are excellent offerings in limited editions and every hot piano roll collector should own them.
