Psychiatrists will tell you that depression improves with time, if you don't kill yourself first. This is not a very good photograph but its the only one I've got. George suffered a bout of depression after his mother died and felt his career wasn't doing very well. George didn't feel that he was playing as well as he thought he should. Joined the service, but was medically rejected. Couldn't find the right lady. So he sold all of his sheet music, threw a big party for all of his friends on the Goldenrod Showboat and went home and put his head in the gas stove. One LP of stride and novelty rags was all that he left behind. When I checked, some years ago, his grave was unmarked.
