Zenna Henderson
Graduating from Arizona State in 1940 with a B.A. in education, Zenna chose a teaching career, which focused mainly on teaching young children in Arizona classrooms.
Zenna's science fiction & fantasy works were generally short in form, written in an educated "stream of consciousness" style in third person. Her themes dealt mainly with extra-sensory alien contact in the southwestern United States. She stayed close to the life she knew, writing about children and education, occasionally in classroom associated settings. Her subjects weaved among the human conflicts . . . problems with open mindedness, migration, unknown cultures, and various religious beliefs.
Henderson's second SF story, "Ararat," published in F&SF in 1952, was the first of a series that would be known as stories about "The People." These stories have a wide following and have been collected in
Pilgrimage: The Book of the People and The People: No Different Flesh.
In 1972, a made-for-TV movie was based on The People.
